Scene from Lulu by Alban Berg

Berg followed up his Wozzeck success with another expressionist drama based on proto-expressionist material. Lulu, based on Wedekind's plays Earth Spirit and Pandora's Box, is more advanced in atonal music than Wozzeck, and is therefore more fully expressionist. Lulu, the archetypal destroyer, is the epitome of the expressionist manifestation of the power and destructiveness inherent in the sexual instinct. This scene is from a modern production that borrows successfully from the earlier movement.
