Scene from From Morn To Midnight by Georg Kaiser Georg Kaiser's 1912 play "From Morn to Midnight" heralded a major change in the German theater, though it borrowed heavily from Strindberg's dream plays. "From Morn to Midnight," like the medieval Passion Play, is a station drama, one whose scenes are episodic rather than linear. This structure follows the hero through a series of events, and in a variety of places, that have little external relationship. The prose style is disjointed and telegraphic, but, unlike other expressionist playwrights, Strindberg used everyday prose for his dialogue. |
