Melodrama:

The term comes from the Greek word for song (melos), and originally designated any drama accompanied by music. In the Victorian period, popular melodramas emphasized a clear conflict between good and evil, with good heroes and heroines and evil antiheroes. The form is characterized by improbably happy endings after external (not internal) disasters.
