Scene from Relache by Frances Picabia and Erik Satie. Although Picabia and Satie were scorned by certain of the surrealists, their ballet Relache was a triumph of surrealist art when it opened on December 3, 1924. During intermission, Picabia and Satie's surrealist film, Entr'acte was shown. This illustration is a still from Entr'acte that juxtaposes a male dance (Picabia) in a guaze skirt. Relache caused a tumult, but remains one of the great moments in surrealist theater.
