Alexandre-Marie Colin. The Three Witches from "Macbeth," 1827.

Oil on canvas, 29.5 x 39.5 inches. The collection of Mr. and Mrs. Sandor Korein.

This French painting is included because of Colin's connection with several English painters. Colin was one of the artists, along with Richard Bonington, who was influenced by Eugène Delacroix. Delacroix was familiar with the work of Robert Smirke and Henry Fuseli whose forty paintings on Shakespeare had been published in The Picturesque Beauties of Shakespeare (Anderson 44). Through these influences Colin's painting is likely endebted to the work of Fuseli on the same subject: The Three Witches and Macbeth, Banquo and the Three Witches on the Heath.
