John Pettie (1839-1893)

Pettie studied in Edinburgh, but he moved to London in 1862, two years after he first exhibited his work at the Royal Academy. His historical paintings covered many periods, but he was especially noted for recreated incidents from the English Civil Wars and the Jacobite Rebellion.
