Monique Allewaert
Department of English

Professor Allewaert (PhD Duke, 2006) specializes in early American literature, circumatlantic studies, eighteenth-century revolutions, and critical theory.  She is researching a book that charts an ecological conception of revolution that emerged from American plantation spaces. Professor Allewaert’s article "Swamp Sublime" is forthcoming in PMLA and her essay "Helter Skelter:  Jefferson’s Haiti" will appear in an upcoming collection on Haiti and Early America.
 
She teaches English 350 (Early American Literature), English 483 (Seminar on Criticism and Theory), and English 205 (Introduction to Poetry).
